Is a pastor legally allowed to speak about political things from the pulpit?
Yes, there are very specific guidelines about what a pastor can speak about from the pulpit. For example, while a pastor cannot endorse a candidate from the pulpit, he can speak about the issues. Consult the pamphlet from Pacific Justice Institute (which is included in the kit that you recieve when you sign up for Citizens Sunday) for more information.
Can a church conduct a voter registration drive?
Yes, churches are legally able to conduct voter registration drives as long as they provide registration for all political parties.
Why do I need to send a copy of the voter registration to CRI?
We ask for a copy of voter registration pages so we can track the success of our outreach.
Can we register voters every Sunday?
Yes, legally you are allowed to register voters every Sunday. Check with your pastor for any restrictions he might have.
Where can I get voter registration cards?
When you register for Citizens Sunday, we include ten voter registration cards in the welcome kit. Additional cards can be obtained by contacting the CA Secretary of State (http:www.sos.ca.gov/) or CRI's Director of Citizens Sunday, La Tonya Wright at ltgwright@gmail.com.
